Head of the Chancellery of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan - Nurlan Onzhanov

Nurlan Onzhanov was born in 1960.

In 1983, he graduated from the Humboldt University of Berlin.

From 1983 to 1986, he was the Lecturer at the Almaty Pedagogical Institute of Foreign Languages.

From 1986 to 1992, he was the intern-researcher, graduate student at the Moscow State Pedagogical Institute of Foreign Languages ​​named after Moris Torez.

From 1992 to 1994, he joined the civil service and held various positions as the Leading Specialist, Chief Specialist, Head of Department, Advisor to the Minister of Press and Mass Media of Kazakhstan.

From 1994 to 1996, he worked as Senior Assistant of the International Department of the Office of the President of Kazakhstan.

From 1996 to 1997, he served as First Secretary, Counsellor of Kazakhstan’s Embassy Austria.

From 1997 to 2001, he was the Counsellor of Kazakhstan’s Embassy in Switzerland.

From 2001 to 2002 - Director of the Economic Policy Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan.

From 2002 to 2003, he served as the Consul General of Kazakhstan in Frankfurt am Main (Germany).

From 2003 to 2004, he held the position of the Vice-Minister - Chairman of the Committee on the CIS at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan, and National Coordinator for the activities of the organization “Central Asian Cooperation” from the Republic Kazakhstan.

From 2004 to 2007, he served as Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan.

From 2007 to 2008, he worked as Aide to the President of Kazakhstan.

From 2008 to 2014, he served as Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Kazakhstan to Germany, as well as to the Kingdom of Denmark concurrently.

From 2014 to 2019, he again held the position of Aide to the President of Kazakhstan.

On March 21, 2019, by the Decree of the Head of State, Nurlan Onzhanov was appointed as the Head of the Chancellery of the President of Kazakhstan.

Nurlan Onzhanov is awarded with the order “Qurmet” (Honour) (2006), order “Parasat” (Nobility) (2011), and 5 anniversary medals.

He holds the diplomatic rank of Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary.

Candidate of Sciences in philology. He Speaks German, Swedish, English.
